Language disturbance

The main disturbance in inhalant intoxication delirium is a reversible decrease in the level of consciousness and awareness of the environment, which includes an inability to focus, sustain, or shift attention. The intoxicated person is confused and easily distracted by irrelevant stimuli and difficult to engage in a meaningful conversation. He or she may also exhibit prominent disorientation, short- and long-term memory deficits, language disturbances, and perceptual disturbances that may include illusions and hallucinations. Other prominent features associated with inhalant intoxication delirium are... [Pg.291]

All the above changes are easily implementable in dynamic simulations, using ISIM and other digital simulation languages. The forms of response obtained differ in form, depending upon the system characteristics and can be demonstrated in the various ISIM simulation examples. The response characteristics of real systems are, however, more complex. In order to be able to explain such phenomena, it is necessary to first examine the responses of simple systems, using the concept of the simple, step-change disturbance. [Pg.65]

Dysarthria A disturbance of speech and language due to emotional stress, to brain injury, or to paralysis, incoordination, or spasticity of the muscles used for speaking. [Pg.310]

CNS effects Psychomotor slowing, difficulty with concentration, and speech or language problems somnolence or fatigue and coordination abnormalities, including ataxia and gait disturbances. [Pg.1277]

The clinical presentation of EOS comprises cognitive symptoms, emotional symptoms, and changes in social functioning, disturbances of speech and language, and motor disturbances. [Pg.545]

I am disturbed that following Professor Hammes presentation the language in the discussion has changed. While discussing enzymes we looked at molecule properties closely related to the discussion of small molecules (e.g., atom position and motions). Now in the discussion of complex enzymes, especially in membranes, we have started to use bulk properties (e.g., we talk of phases, dielectric constants, Chapman-Gouy theory, etc.). Is it the view of the discussants that events in membrane-coupled-enzyme systems cannot be described by molecular events because of the complexity of the system resulting from extensive cooperativ-ity within the membrane (e.g., between lipids and proteins) ... [Pg.220]
