Language barriers

There s a language barrier between the pump manufacturers and the pump users. They use different terminology. Pump users, the operators and mechanics, use pressure gauges that read in psi, pounds per square... 

Communication with the potential volunteers prior to the study is essential. Prior to the initiation of the field phase of the study, a meeting should be held with the potential volunteers to explain the details of the procedures of the study, present the consent form, and inform the potential volunteers of the risks and benefits (including any monetary compensation to the worker) of participating in the study. At this meeting, consent in writing should be obtained from the worker. If there is any language barrier between the researcher and the potential volunteers, an interpreter should be present at the meeting.

Research in Chinese medicinal herbs has been conducted for decades in China, Japan, and Korea and recently in the West. Unfortunately, language barriers and the unreliability of sources and herbal material have hampered progress. A basic scientific understanding of the Chinese herbal preparations is the first step toward building consumer confidence in herbal medications. Proper procedures to eliminate adulteration, contamination, and toxic side effects are also urgently needed to regulate the use of Chinese herbs. 

As was stated in Sec. I. A, no attempt has been made to include all known measurements of the fluorescent lifetimes of the trivalent rare earths. However, a reasonable effort was made to include a substantial number of the papers on this topic published during the last few years. The criteria of eliminating some papers in which a casual measurement was made was adhered to, and in other cases a language barrier unfortunately prohibited their inclusion. Consequently, this review is representative rather than exhaustive.

The content analysis of the Polish media has been somewhat restricted as compared to that of the Swedish, mainly for practical reasons, such as difficulties in accessing the empirical material and language barriers.9 The analysis of the Polish press has focused primarily on general patterns in the news flow, such as dominant content/ themes and prominent frames. In addition, the search profile was more limited here, even if the number of newspapers studied was greater and the time period longer.10... 

One of the objectives was to accomodate to United Nations labeling for international shipping using symbolic representation of hazard. The new labels and placards overcome any language barriers that may exist. 

ISO work has been concentrated in the areas of terminology, dimensions, and test methods. A common technical language is an absolute requirement for effective communication and is especially needed in international standards work in which language barriers can cause not only comical but tragic situations. 

Nicholass Schoorl and Van Den LM, at the University of Utrecht Berg, studied the photostability of a number of chemicals in the early 1900s. Two of their papers, published in 1905, dealt with the photodecomposition of bromoform (7) and chloroform (8). Other studies by Schoorl (9-11) and De Graff et al. (12) remain unknown, even today, due to the language barrier (Old Dutch) and the fact of their publication in local journals.
