Ladders setup

Jerry should be given additional training in the proper way to select and setup a ladder. 

Ladders must be setup at an angle that the horizontal distance from the top support to the foot of the ladder is about one-quarter of the ladders length (4-to-l rule). 

Don t setup ladders anywhere where they can be knocked over (like in a doorway) unless a barricade is used to prevent accidental displacement.

For process equipment, designers need to specify necessary safety features and the tests for meeting requirements. For process equipment, there should be fail-safe features. Fire protection, overpressure, excess heat, runaway reactions, dust control, exhaust ventilation, dangers of flammable liquids, leaks, sensing devices to report status are all examples of important safety features. Designers and purchasers need to consider access for setup, maintenance and cleaning. There may be a need for access by stairs, fixed ladders or platforms as part of large equipment. 

Setup should avoid doors unless they are locked, blocked, and either guarded or labeled with signage. Additionally, the area around the ladder s base should be blocked off or marked with cones or other warning devices, especially when equipment is operated near or around corners. 

The major difference in the typing of the STR loci is the ability to include an internal size standard if the detection device used has multicolor capability. Under the TWG-DAM Guidelines forensic samples are to be placed adjacent to an allele ladder, as seen in Fig. 7 (PCR-STR). Since the Beckman Genomyx SC only has two filters (fluorescein and TMR) an internal ladder could not be used, so the adjacent ladder format is used. In this situation there is no special preparation for detection. When the four-color Hitachi FMBIO II Fluorescent Scanner, ABI Prism 377 or 310 is used, an internal standard is used to size the DNA fragements.
