However, relatively few studies have included growing plants in their experimental systems. In order to mechanistically understand the effects of pine roots on microbial N transformations rates under conditions of N limitation, l-year-old pine seedlings were transplanted into Plexiglas microcosms (121) and grown for 10-12 months. The U.S. sample was followed openly on risperidone (0.02-0.06 mg/kg/day) for an additional 48 weeks (Findling et ah, 2001). Some 50 children continued to end point, whereas 57 eventually withdrew from the trial for a variety of reasons (11, adverse events 11, insufficient response 35 other [loss to follow-up, withdrawal of consent, etc]). Subjects who received placebo in the acute trial had significant improvements as rated by parents on the Conduct Problem subscale of the NCBRF as they went on to active medication. Subjects already receiving risperidone in the acute trial continued to show improvement on the Conduct Problem subscale in the open-label continuation. Clinician CGI ratings also indicated improvement for participants who were switched from placebo to risperidone. 

The optimal duration of treatment with cholinesterase inhibitors has not been definitively established. Most randomized controlled trials in patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer s disease have been 26 weeks in duration or less. However, some data (mostly open-label continuation data of placebo-controlled trials) suggest continued benefits with treatment for 1 year or longer (Bullock and Dengiz 2005 Doody et al. 2001a Farlow et al. 2000 Grossberg et al. 2004 Lyketsos et al. 2004 Mohs et al. 2001 Pirttila et al. 2004 Raskind et al. 2000, 2004 Rogers et al. 2000 Small et al. 2005 Wilcock et al. 2003 Winblad et al. 2001).

Willemot and Boll (1%7) observed that [ C]serine was a good precursor of PC and PE, whereas [ C]ethanolamine yielded only labeled PE. It was also observed that in the presence of mercuribenzoate or diethylethanol-amine formation of PE was completely inhibited while PC labeling continued. These results suggested a pathway to choline independent of PE, but degradation studies of the PC would be appropriate to see where the radioactivity is.
