Known Effects of Ionic Forces in Polymers

The solution properties of polyelectrolytes have been investigated extensively, partially due to the biological importance of poly-ionic materials. Since an extensive literature exists in this field, and since only bulk properties are considered in this review, solution properties of the poly-electrolytes will not be discussed further. 

Among the properties which have a somewhat greater bearing on the present review, the folbwing should be mentioned  

Several investigators (30, 45) found that the glass transition temperature increases with an increase in the concentration of ions in linear poljmiers. 

The mechanical properties of the materials reflect primarily the increase in the glass transition (30, 36). 

Relaxation mechanisms in ionic poljoners (other than dispersions due to motion of ions or small ionic groups) have been investigated only very briefly.
