Ketones and derivatives

Methyl 2-phenylsulfmylacetate 96 and /S-ketosulfoxides have been used for the syntheses of various ketones and derivatives of carboxylic acids131"133. For example, cu-(methylsulfinyl)acetophenone 97 have been converted to the corresponding ketone or to y- and <5-ketoesters134. 

Carbohydrate (Section 25.1) Naturally occurring compounds, often with the general formula C (H20) that are polyhydroxy aldehydes or ketones and derivatives formed from these includes sugars and starches. 

The absolute rate constant for loss of CO from the acyl radical in the cage occupied by the other radical, k co, must be known. Laser flash photolyses carried out in both liquid solutions ° and bulk polymers on dibenzyl ketone and derivatives of it, yielding triplet benzylic/arylacetyl radical pairs, indicate that the presence of a benzylic radical within a cage has no discernible effect on the rate of loss of CO from the arylacetyl partner. Thus, where values of k co are not known in a polymer, rate constants measured in liquid media of similar polarity may be used.
