A generalized table of fundamental filler characteristics is given in Table 6.1 for a range of carbonate and kaolin grades as well as typical filler titanium, talc and precipitated silica. By developing an understanding of how these fundamental... [Pg.123]

Conventional refractory grain alumina powders, kaolin, and Western bentonite can be used. Kaolin is preferred in amounts between 0.5 and 10% by weight of the sand. An example of a kaolin grade useful for this purpose is Freeport Kaolin Co. s Nusheen unpulverized kaolin material which consists of kaoUnite particles with a specific surface area of about 16 m /g. [Pg.203]

Commercially available kaolin grades can be produced by air floating or wet processing. Air-floated kaolin is the least processed, and therefore the least expensive. Here, the mineral is crushed, dried, and pulverized. Thereafter, it is floated in an air stream and classified using an air classifier. The finer particles are separated from the coarse ones and from the non-kaolin particles, which are referred to as grit. [Pg.243]

Creating EVM with optimum hot-air resistance requires either carbon black or light-colored, non-active fillers. The best resistance is obtained using acetylene carbon black. Powdery talc, chalk, or kaolin grades are appropriate for light-colored mixtures [697]. [Pg.667]

The slime, consisting of kaolin, fine quart2, and feldspar, is sometimes used as is after being dewatered. This material may be used in the manufacture of light-colored brick or may be further processed to produce a high grade ceramic kaolin used in the manufacture of dinnerware, electrical porcelain, or sanitary-ware (see Ceramics). Floes of kaolin may be sold in bulk from the drier or pulveri2ed and sold in a powdered form. [Pg.288]

Glass-grade siUca can be produced from most mica operations with additional beneficiation of the quart2. Ceramic-grade kaolin can be produced from some mica flotation plants by selective mining and additional processiag of the clay slime removed prior to mica flotation (see Clays). [Pg.291]

A great variety of aluminium-silicate bearing rocks, plastic when wet, hard when dry. Used in pottery, stoneware, tile, bricks, cements, fillers and abrasives. Kaolin is one type of clay. Some clay deposits may include appreciable amounts of quartz. Commercial grades of clays may contain up to 20% quartz. [Pg.79]

This paper presents the grade-efficiency curves of a 75 n flat bottom cyclone (RWB 1613) provided by the Amberger Kaolin Werke (AKW). It is tested for the ammonium sulfate-water system for both fines removal and product classification. Its results will be compared with the results for fines removal obtained when using an... [Pg.131]

We varied the gel-forming parameters, the content of Kaolin clay, the crystal size, and the thickness-to-diameter ratio in a series of experiments. A dual structure began to appear at about 35-40% Kaolin. If the clay content was increased to too high a level, the microspheres became too weak and began to have poor attrition resistance. The cost of the various grades also affected our choice. Figure 9 shows a comparison of pore volume distribution for a typical synthetic versus a clay modified catalyst. [Pg.321]

The same approach was applied to enhance and extend resid catalyst technology. We gave considerable attention to specific grades of Kaolin to assure a very good pore structure and to keep costs down For a combination of low cost, good open pore structure, low iron content, and low attrition, we preferred the smaller, spherical equivalent Kaolin crystals with a high diameter-to-thickness ratio. [Pg.321]

The flotation responses of the kaolin samples to the various flotation collectors were measured using the separation efficiency (SE) index. This index combines both grade and recovery to describe the efficiency of the beneficiation process. The mathematical expression used to compute the separation efficiency is the following ... [Pg.103]
