Kainate receptor subunit gene expression in the neocortex is illustrated in Fig. 4. KAl mRNA is also in the underlying corpus callosum white matter tracts (Werner et al., 1991 Wisden and Seeburg, 1993a Bahn et al., 1994). By contrast, KA2 transcripts are abundant in the neocortex, particularly in layers II/III and V/VI (Herb et al., 1992 Wisden and Seeburg, 1993a Bahn [Pg.118]

There is a mismatch between the distribution of KA2 and the more limited distribution of the other subunits, suggesting unknown partner subunits for KA2 containing receptors in many parts of the cortex, particularly in the outer layers. [Pg.119]
