June drop

Sampling Golden delicious apples were sampled in intervals of three weeks over a hole season. Sampling started at the so-called June-drop , which corresponds to the end of the cell division phase (= week 0). After harvest (week 14), the mature apples were stored over a period of 20 weeks at 4°C and 95% relative humidity. [Pg.652]

Natural wastage In many years, apple trees will set more fruits than they can successfully ripen, and so a natural shedding prooess takes plaoe, usually of poorly formed or stunted fruitlets, around midsummer. It is sometimes referred to as the June drop. [Pg.298]

In order to achieve high fruit quality, additional thinning by hand is essential immediately after the June drop. [Pg.101]

Brassinolide solution was sprayed until flowers and fruits were completely wet. Treatments were done on the day of anthesis and also 2 months after anthesis when "June drop" had ceased. During June drop non-treated plants showed ca. 98% abortion (Table HI). Flower numbers and initial fruit set were computed on the day of treatment. [Pg.315]

Rates of fruit set at anthesis treatment were measured 25 and 50 days after treatments and those after cessation of "June drop" were measured at 28 days after the treatment. Fruits were harvested at maturity and the number of fruit, fresh weight, sugar content and titratable acidity were determined. [Pg.315]

The experiments after the cessation of "June drop" were also counted. However, after that period, only 5% of abortion was seen even in the control trees. Thus, it was difficult to show a stimulating effect of brassinolide in this treatment. [Pg.316]

For condensing vapor in vertical downflow, in which the hquid flows as a thin annular film, the frictional contribution to the pressure drop may be estimated based on the gas flow alone, using the friction factor plotted in Fig. 6-31, where Re is the Reynolds number for the gas flowing alone (Bergelin, et al., Proc. Heat Transfer Fluid Mech. Inst., ASME, June 22-24, 1949, pp. 19-28). [Pg.655]

Lewis (1989) describes the accident, which occurred in Siberia on the night of June 3 and early hours of June 4, 1989. Late on June 3, 1989, engineers in charge of the 0.7 m (28 in.) pipeline, which carried natural gas liquids from the gas fields in western Siberia to chemical plants in Ufa in the Urals, noticed a sudden drop in pressure at the pumping end of the pipeline. It appears that the engineers responded by increasing the pumping rate in order to maintain normal pipeline pressure. [Pg.23]

The HYGAS project was dropped from the Joint Program on June 30, 1979. The remaining processes received several independent critical evaluations during 1979. These evaluations pointed out that the Rockwell process cannot claim distinct advantages over earlier technology. Therefore, it will not be included in our 1980 program. [Pg.328]

The Yellow Card Scheme was soon beginning to pay dividends. In early 1966, the YeUow Card Scheme had identified methyldopa as a cause of haemolytic anaemia and an appropriate advice was issued. Another success was the detection of a faulty batch of a particular product, which the manufacturer immediately withdrew, underlining the value of an efficient procedure for tracing a batch. During June 1967, the Committee distributed a leaflet on the use of aerosols in asthma. This was prompted by the death rate amongst asthmatic patients aged 5 to 34 years that had risen some 300% above the level in 1959-60 when such preparations were introduced. By September 1968, the rate had dropped to only 50% above that seen in 1959-60 despite sales having dropped only 20%. [Pg.468]

Air Delivery, Simulated (Parachute Drop) Test T213 is briefly described in Vol 4 p D2092-R and its revision is given as Test 117 in Notice 3, 11 June 1969... [Pg.639]

Only when the bomb struck very near some readily combustible material was there any danger(Ref 1) The incendiary bombs of WWII were much more effective as also were the bombing planes. This made it possible to conduct incendiary bombing on a very large scale, especially by the Americans and British. For instance, accdg to Stettbacher (Ref 16), the number of incendiary bombs dropped on Koln(June 28,1943) was 100,000, on Berlin (March 8,1944) 200,000, Tokyo(March 15,1945) 325,000 and Hitler s Headquarters(May 25,1945) 600,000. Damages and casualties inflicted by incendiary bombs were about ten times greater than that caused by explosive bombs(Ref 16)... [Pg.235]

The second meeting was also held under the auspices of the American Chemical Society, in Toronto in June 1988.63 The subject was the general one of electrochemistry only a proportion dealt with historical aspects of instrumentation. One paper provided an overview of electrochemical instrumentation64 and others considered the specific topics of the pH meter,65 the glass electrode,66 and the dropping mercury polarograph of Jaroslav Heyrovsky.67... [Pg.220]

On June 15, 1994, Luftl received a notice from the District Criminal Court of Vienna, dated June 8, 1994,56 and stating that the initial investigation that had been instituted against him had been dropped since there were no further grounds for prosecution. [Pg.83]

All classes are scheduled to begin immediately following school dismissal, and transportation will be available from Brookdale High School to the Allendale Cultural Center and the Allendale Public Library. For more information about Project Teen, contact the cultural center s programming office at 988-0099 or drop by the office after June 1 to pick up a fall course catalog. The office is located on the third floor of the Allendale Town Hall. [Pg.19]

There are two periods in which trees are sensitive to lack of light. The first is shortly after flowering (when lack of light results in smaller fruit and can lead to increased fruit drop in June), and the second period is before harvesting (when lack of light affects fruit growth and surface colour). [Pg.14]
