Information about this splendid compilation came to me from a chemist, Robert Weast (1985), who was editor from 1952 until 1988... 37 years He also informed me that the creation (jointly by the American Chemical Society and the American Institute of Physics) of the Journal of Physical and Chemical Reference Data, which began publication in 1972, was encouraged by the results of a survey which indicated how widely the Rubber Bible was used. Weast describes this journal as a truly outstanding source of critically evaluated data . In saying this, he underlined the crucial role of editors and contributors critical judgment in selecting data for such compilations. The thermochemical data for the chemical compounds which follow in this appendix are extracted directly from the JANAF tables (JANAF Thermochemical Tables, Third Edition, M. W. Chase Jr., C. A. Davies, J. R. Davies, Jr., D. J. Fulrip, R. A. McDonald, and A. N. Syverud, Journal of Physical and Chemical Reference Data, 14, Supplement 1, 1985). The compounds chosen from the numerous ones given are those believed to be most frequently used and those required to solve some of the problem sets given in Chapter 1. Since SI units have been used in the JANAF tables, these units were chosen as the standard throughout. Conversion to cgs units is readily accomplished by use of the conversion factors in this appendix (Table 1). Table 2 contains the thermochemical data. [Pg.487]

Based on the above notion, we began to collect the physical-chemical properties data of ionic liquids in 2003. The collection of data initially began in 2003. After one year, the first phase of the database was established in 2004. That part of the work was published in the Journal of Physical and Chemical Data. With the development of ionic liquids, its kind has greatly increased to approximately 1800 from previous about 600. Their various strucmres result in multiplicate properties. The aim of this handbook of ionic liquids extracted from a large number of scattered publications in the literature is to establish the properties relationships of ionic liquid-stmctures and provide clues to discovering the potentially over one million simple ionic liquids. [Pg.3]

The data bank contains in over 800 tables all information on the heat capacity of polymers. These acceptable heat capacity data have been computer processed, to derive for the first time a comprehensive set of reconmended data. At present, recommended data are available for 98 polymers. These reconmended data are summarized in the table below. They are being discussed in nine successive papers in the Journal of Physical and Chemical Reference Data (I98I/82).
