Jet fighters

Other polymers, such as polycarbonate and polymethylmethacrylate, are hard, tough, and transparent. These materials are ideal for applications that are likely to experience severe impact. We find these polymers in bus shelters, motorcycle helmet visors, and jet fighter canopies. 

This last case illustrates that the desired closedloop relationship cannot be chosen arbitrarily. You cannot moke a jumbo jet behave like a jet fighter We must select the desired response such that the controller b physically realizable. In this case all we need to do is modiiy the specified closedloop servo transfer function to include the dcadtime. 

The pace of aircraft development was such that even Fighter Command was confronted with a serious problem of obsolescence in 1950. The RAF s jet fighters in service at that date, the Gloster Meteor and the de Havilland Vampire, had straight wings, which were aerodynamically less efficient than swept-back ones. The earliest versions of the Meteor and Vampire had entered service in 1944 and 1946 respectively, but plans for their replacement were related to an assumption that a major war would be unlikely to occur until about 1957. Resources for research and development had been drastically reduced at the end of the war and it was decided to take a risk in concentrating on really big advances in...

New colors such as pink, pale green and lemon yellow appeared to seduce consumers. Labor-saving devices, such as power steering and electric windows also became popular. Lush interiors were directed at female consumers but the jet fighter imagery of the exterior was masculine. 

Composites. Composites are materials that contain strong fibers or reinforcement embedded in a continuous phase called a matrix. They are found in jet fighters such as stealth fighters and bombers, in the reusable space shuttle, in graphite golf clubs, in synthetic human body parts, and for many years in marine craft (fibrous glass).

As society becomes more technically advanced, its tools become more and more sophisticated. In some cases, the machine has advanced further than the human capacity to control it. Jet fighters are good examples. These machines are capable of performing in g-forces that incapacitate most humans. Safety professionals need to be aware of the limits of human performance, as well as the fallibility of the individual in a mechanized system. 

With the Messerschmitt Me 262, Germany developed the world s first jet fighter, but by the end of World War II, the British had their own with the Gloster Meteor. The two jets never fought each other, though.
