Jersey cattle

All-Jersey milk. This is produced by registered Jersey herds whose owners comply with the regulations of the American Jersey Cattle Club. It is sold at a premium price under the trademark of "All Jersey."... 

The levels of dieldrin and aldrin are also studied in the United States, the Canadian Arctic, Greece and Alaska (Table 8.4a). The bird samples from New Jersey from 1996 to 1997 had the highest levels of dieldrin and aldrin (Stansley Roscoe, 1999), whereas the Canadian Arctic had the lowest levels of dieldrin and aldrin (Braune et al., 2001). A recent study from Greece reported that the concentrations of dieldrin and aldrin from the liver samples of birds were much lower than that of the United States but were similar to those of the Arctic (Sakellarides et al., 2006). Dong et al. (2004) showed that the occurrence of aldrin and dieldrin in herons in China were low as compared with Italy (50-73%) (Table 8.4b) (Fasola et al., 1998) and dieldrin was absent in little egrets and cattle egrets. The authors suggested that aldrin and dieldrin are not used as frequently in China as in Europe. 

Collagen. Cattle-hide collagen was obtained from Devro, Inc. Somerville, New Jersey. The fibrous collagen was washed with 10% sodium chloride solution, followed by washing with distilled water. The collagen was freeze-dried and stored at 20°C. 

PPIases also play a key role in cell entry and in the replication of several pathogenic viruses, as well as in the formation of mature virions. The vesicular stomatitis virus New Jersey serotype, which causes major diseases in animals, particularly cattle, contains several host proteins, including cyclophilin A, which are essential for viral replication. CsA and overexpression of catalytically inactive mutants of CypA drastically inhibit gene expression of the virus New Jersey serotype but have little effect on the virus Indiana serotype [102]. Although it is presently the subject of controversial publications and is still misunderstood, the involvement of PPIases - notably hCypl8 - in the HIV-1 life cycle is one of the most famous examples of the hijacking of host proteins by a lentivirus [8]. 

Lactoglobulin occurs in genetic variants A, B and C of the Jersey dairy cattle breed, and variant D of the Montbeliarde dairy cow. Two other Aor and Bor variants of Australian drought master cows are identical to variants A and B apart from the carbohydrate content.
