Jaw crusher

Crushing and grinding uses mechanical force to break larger particles into smaller ones. A variety of tools are used depending on the particle s size and hardness. Large particles are crushed using jaw crushers capable of reducing particles to diameters of a few millimeters. Ball mills, disk mills, and mortars and pestles are used to further reduce particle size. 

Ore samples are analyzed for %w/w Ni. A jaw crusher is used to break the original ore sample into smaller pieces that are then sieved into 5 size fractions. A portion of each fraction is reduced in size using a disk mill and samples taken for analysis by coning and quartering. The effect of particle size on the determination of %w/w Ni is evaluated.

The overhead eccentric jaw crusher Nordberg, Telsmith Jnc., and Cedarapids) falls into the second type. These are single-toggle machines. The lower end of the jaw is pulled back against the toggle by a tension rod and spring.

Penn.sylvania Cru.sher Corp. offers a variety of impactor types granulators, Bradford breakers, roll crushers, and jaw crushers. (See Table 20-15.)... 

Sixty percent of refractoiy magnesite is made synthetically from Michigan brines. When calcined, this material is one of the hardest refractories to grind. Gyratoiy crushers, jaw crushers, pan mills, and ball mills are used. 

Grading of the product (i.e., size distribution) depends on the discharge opening, which is difficult to measure and adjust owing to wear of the plates in a jaw crusher. Size of feed and wear of plates do not affect grading significantly. Table 20-10 relates sizes of product to crusher settings. 

If the rock is abrasive, the first stage of crushing may use gyratory or jaw crushers, otherwise a rotor-impact mill. Their reduction ratio is only 1 12 to 1 18, so they often must be followed by a hammer mill, or they can feed a roll press. Rotor crushers have become the dominant primaiy crusher for cement plants because of the characteristics. All of these types of crushers may be installed in moveable crusher plants.

Jaw crushers take lumps of several feet in diameter down to 4 in. Stroke rates are 100-300/min. The average feed is subjected to 8-10 strokes before it becomes small enough to escape. Gyratory crushers are suited to slabby feeds and make a more rounded product.

The selection guides given by Lowrison (1974) and Marshall (1974), which are reproduced in Tables 10.12 (see p. 465) and 10.13, can be used to make a preliminary selection based on particle size and material hardness. Descriptions of most of the equipment listed in these tables are given in Volume 2, Chapter 2 or can be found in the literature Perry et al. (1997), Hioms (1970), Lowrison (1974). The most commonly used equipment for coarse size reduction are jaw crushers and rotary crushers and for grinding, ball mills or their variants pebble, roll and tube mills. 

A material is crushed in a Blake jaw crusher such that the average size of particle is reduced from 50 mm to 10 mm, with the consumption of energy of 13.0 kW/(kg/s). What will be the consumption of energy needed to crush the same material of average size 75 mm to average size of 25 mm ...
