Isostatic powder pressing. This process utilizes a flexible die surrounded with water or glycerin, compressed up to 10,000 psi. The high pressure is more uniform and produces a part with less warpage. [Pg.243]

An intermediate form of isostatic pressure sintering, sometimes referred to as pseudo-isostatic hot-pressing, uses uniaxial hot-pressing apparatus but immerses the object to be sintered in a refractory non-interacting powder within the die and punches. This avoids the very considerable expense of building a furnace inside a thick-walled pressure vessel but the results are inferior to those achieved with true isostatic hot-pressing. [Pg.117]

Lui.896Ybo 1H00.004O3 nanocrystalline powders were synthesized by co-precipitation method, which was described in detail before The as-prepared powders were pressed under 30 MPa into disk with 12-mm diameter, and then isostatically cold pressed under 200 MPa pressure. Finally, the disks were sintered at 1850°C for 3 h in flowing H2 atmosphere. Therefore, the translucent ceramics were obtained. [Pg.645]

Powder pressing (die pressing, cold isostatic pressing)... [Pg.86]

Powder Pressing Some ceramic pieces are formed by powder compaction uniaxial, isostatic, and hot pressing techniques are possible. [Pg.540]

More complex shapes can be made by cold isostatic pressing (CIP). CIP uses deformable mbber molds of the required shape to contain the powder. The appHcation of isostatic pressure to the mold suspended in a pressure transfer media, such as oil, compacts the powder. CIP is not as easily automated as uniaxial pressing, but has found wide appHcation in the preparation of more complex shapes such as spark plug insulators (26). [Pg.311]

In contrast to the cold isostatic pressing process, the hot process can readily employ powders having spherical or noninterlocking particles. The powder is simply poured in and vibration packed into a container of desired shape. The powder mass is then simultaneously compacted and bonded during the treatment. [Pg.184]
