Isometric feature mapping

A recently introduced algorithm, called stochastic proximity embedding (SPE), is a novel self-organizing scheme that addresses the key limitations of Isomap (isometric feature mapping) and LLE. SPE builds on the same geodesic principle first proposed and exploited in Isomap, but introduces two algorithmic advances SPE circumvents the calculation of estimated geodesic distances, and uses a pairwise refinement scheme that does not require the complete distance, or proximity, r, matrix. Due to these advances, the method scales linearly with the number of points.

Zoom features allow the operator to expand a small area on the display for closer examination, or to expand the colors for a small measurement range. Autoscale features provide the optimum display settings for any image if selected. Three-dimensional features provide an isometric thermal contour map of the target for enhanced recognition of thermal anomalies. 

The results for the isosceles triangle geometry are shown in Fig. 4 as a contour map of the surface and in Fig. 5 as an isometric projection of that same surface. We note that the reaction of H 4- H2 in this conformation leads to dissociation to H 4- H 4- H " along a minimum energy reaction path. A symmetric 113 species is indicated to have stability relative to the reaction ridge on this surface but it is unstable with regard to asymmetric dissociation to 4- H2 in symmetry. These potential surface features for H3 are therefore qualitatively similar to those reported for the asymmetric H3 system. ...
