Isolation starting

Fe[MeC(NEt)(NBu )l2, was isolated starting from different iron(II) precursors such as acetylacetonate, acetate, and chloride. 

In Fig. 8 the vertical bars in the scheme on top of the diagram symbolize the respective isolated starting peak of the chromatogram below. The products of heat sterilizations are found on the horizontal lines below the chromatogram. The length of the bars indicates the relative peak areas obtained after sterilization.

Using these procedures, well-defined derivatives are produced with good yield, and the products are easily isolated starting with 10 mg each of two parent F(ab)2 species, expect to obtain 5-10 mg of BsAb. The derivatives can be produced at relatively low cost and quickly It is possible to obtain the BsAb product from the parent IgG in five working days. The protocols can be scaled up to produce larger amounts (100-150 mg) of derivative for therapeutic applications. 

Cram provided further evidence for the existence of a phenonium ion intermediate by isolating starting tosylate after reaction had proceeded for 1.5 half-lives he found that the L-t/wo-tosylate was 94 percent racemized but the l-erythro-tosylate was still optically pure.23 These results can be easily understood il it is assumed that the starting material first forms a phenonium-tosylate intimate ion pair, which can either revert to starting materials or go on to products. Th< achiral ion pair from the tAreo-tosylate will return to racemic starting material whereas the chiral intermediate from the erythro isomer will return to optically active starting material.
