Surfactant ionic, use

Non-ionic surfactants used in detergents, paints, herbicides, pesticides and plastics. Breakdown products, such as nonylphenol and octylphenol, are found in sewage and industrial efffuents Products of combustion of many materials Widely used as plasticisers for PVC. Common environmental pollutants... [Pg.14]

Many of the same ionic surfactants used for the assembly of mesostructured molecular sieve catalysts [1-4] and related bulk phases [5] can be intercalated in a variety of layered host structures [6]. We have recently demonstrated that some of these mesostructure - forming surfactants retain their structure directing properties when intercalated in the galleries of smectite clays. In a manner quite analogous to bulk mesostructure formation, the intercalated surfactants direct the assembly of an open framework metal oxide (silica) structure within the constrained gallery regions of the layered host (7). The resulting porous intercalates are referred to as porous clay heterostructures (PCH). [Pg.401]

Non-ionic surfactants used as pharmaceuticai excipients such as polyoxyl castor oii (Cremophor) may slightiy enhance the absorption of digoxin. [Pg.941]

Again, the wetting and emulsification properties of the cleaning solution are very important, and in this case, the solution needs to be low foaming [28]. For example, end-capped , non-ionic surfactants used at or near their cloud point can provide these features (the low foaming nature resulting from having the separated phase acts as a defoamer). For heavily soiled surfaces, another non-ionic surfactant may have to be added in order to provide the necessary emulsification and prevent redeposition [21]. [Pg.392]

Haram et al. [385] described a detailed system for the synthesis of CuS nanoparticles using a copper-ammonia complex (pH=l 1) and thiourea in separate microemulsions formed by a non-ionic surfactant (e.g. Triton X-100) with 2-methylpropan-l-ol as co-surfactant and cyclohexane as the oil phase. Other nonionic surfactants used were NP-4, NP-7 and NP-9.5 (nonylphenyl ether surfactant series) the only ionic surfactant used was sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). The reactions envisaged were... [Pg.146]

Temperature control is important in production of classic emulsions because non-ionic surfactants used as emulsifiers offen form temperafure dependent mesophases [11]. Variation in temperature control might lead to changes in... [Pg.90]

Unfortunately, the small surface area of a single capillary (about 0.03 cm ) makes measurements of adsorption of surfactant on a capillary wall by usual methods impossible. However, in the case of ionic surfactants, use of capillary electrokinetics allows measuring of the surface charge in dependence of sur-... [Pg.375]

An attempt to characterize the interaction of mixtures of preservative molecules with non-ionic surfactants using the theory of competitive binding was unsuccessful [49]. In the presence of a second preservative (C) which may act as a competitor, the binding equation may be rewritten... [Pg.306]

Imgkg" min"S 0.32 ml min" was 6.9 OJmgkg" When the solution contained 0.25 mg kg of the non-ionic surfactant used in this work the lethal dose was almost unchanged. The mechanism of the increased toxicity of the drug administered to the trachea or to the bladder of rabbits is probably an increased absorption of bupivacaine caused by the surfactant. [Pg.676]

Describe, quantitatively, SANS and LS results for nonionic siufactants with mixtures of ionic surfactants using theoretical models and extract the molecular parameters, such as C7, that may lead to an imderstanding of the relation between hydration and clouding. [Pg.216]
