The speciation scheme of Batley and Florence requires eight measurements on four samples. After removing insoluble particulates by filtration, the solution is analyzed for the concentration of anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV) labile metal and the total concentration of metal. Because Nafion film can preconcentrate organic cations at a substrate electrode surface, Nafion-coated electrodes can be used as sensitive and selective sensors for electroactive organic cations. The film-entrapped ion is then either oxidized or reduced and the resulting current is recorded and related to the concentration of ions in the aqueous solution (qualitatively similar to anodic stripping voltammetry). It was shown that ion-exchange voltammetric determination of the dication methyl viologen at a Nafion-film-coated electrode results in an improvement of three orders of magnitude in detection limit relative to an uncoated electrode.46... 

The graphite paste electrode, introduced into voltammetry by Adams [1], has an analogue in an ISE where a mixture of graphite powder with an ion-exchanger solution functions as the electrode membrane, into which a platinum contact is immersed [16, 129, 149]. 

Analysis of salsoline and/or salsolidine has been studied by t.l.c. and fluorometry, spectrophotometry, and photometric titration. A new ion-exchange method has been developed for isolating these alkaloids from Salsola richleri Salsolinol has been identified as a major dopamine metabolite in ripening bananas, using cyclic voltammetry, t.l.c., and g.c.-m.s. Of particular interest was the way in which detailed information could be derived from voltammetric studies of clay minerals treated aerobically with iron (11) solutions. This caused the precipitation of a thin, active layer of iron (HI) oxi(hydroxides) which could later be used for the sorption of arsenate(V) ions [69]. By employing the voltammetry of immobilized microparticles, it was possible to distinguish different iron species, namely (i) ion-exchangeable, labile, or sorbed iron (HI) ions (ii) ferrihydrite or lepidocrocite and (iii) crystalline hematite or goethite. Cepria et al. subsequently employed the voltammetry of immobilized microparticles in the phase analysis of iron (III) oxides and oxi(hydroxides) in binary mixtures, as well as in cosmetic formulations [70].
