Simple 1,2-dithiepanes are prepared by the oxidation of, -alkanedithiols using hydrogen peroxide, iodine, oxygen, or other oxidants . For example, potassium permanganate adsorbed on copper sulfate penta-hydrate oxidizes 1,5-pentanedithiol into 1,2-dithiepane 198 <1998S1587>. 

Unfortunately, the absence of X-ray structural information and magnetic evidence has prevented the establishment of the formula Xe+[PtFe] for the 1 1 adduct, although the derivation of rubidium hexafluoroplatinate(V) from this compound in the oxidatively and reductively neutral solvent iodine penta-fluoride indicates that it is a hexafluoroplatinate(V). The dehydrogenation of 2 -hydroxychalcones and flavanones to flavones, of l-(2-hydroxyaryl)alk-2-en-l-ones and chroman-4-ones to chromones and of thiochroman-4-ones to thiochromones can be accomplished using iodine in hot DMSO <97HCM223>. E-3-Styrylchromones result from the oxidative rearrangement of 5-aryl-l-(2-hydroxyphenyl)penta-2,4-dien-l-ones with thallium(lll) nitrate <97LA2065>. Dimethyldioxirane converts flavanones into flavones by way of the 2-hydroxyflavanone. This approach enables flavans to be converted to a variety of flavonoids <97TL4651>. 

Alkoxyaryltrifluoroperiodinanes (2), described as tamed iodine penta-fluoride, oxidize alcohols to aldehydes and ketones in moderate to high yields. The same reagents also oxidize amino-compounds to carbonyl compounds in moderate yields.
