Inverted structure

The mathematical structure of Q reflects Babinet s theorem, i.e., the fact that the scattering of inverted structures are identical. [Pg.147]

Surfactants with very small head group areas such as cholesterol tend to form inverted micelles (Fig. 12.7). Their head groups point into the center of the micelle while the hydrophobic tails form the continuous, hydrophobic outer region. Inverted structures such as inverted liposomes, are also formed in nonpolar solvents such as toluene, benzene, cyclohexane instead of water [534]. [Pg.257]

In the range where bicontinuous morphologies are obtained, KIc may attain a maximum local value (but it then increases again for phase-inverted structures). The presence of this maximum seems to be related to the formation of an incipient phase-inverted structure that exhibits a lack of adhesion between both phases. In these cases, bicontinuous or double-phase morphologies lead to a better fracture resistance (Girard-Reydet et al., 1997). [Pg.415]

In our early work, esters of p-amidinobenzoic acid (8) were shown to behave as specific substrates of trypsin, as mentioned in Sect. 4.1. Esters 8 have the same molecular arrangement as normal-type substrates although they have a simplified structure lacking an asymmetric carbon and an a-acylamide group. In an extension of this investigation, we designed esters of an inverted structure, namely acyl derivatives of p-amidinophenol (46). [Pg.98]

Disadvantages Low electron velocity, low current Extra gate bias required to compensate piezoelectric field due to inverted structure Low electron velocity, low current, difficulty in forming a short gate Complex layer in growth... [Pg.572]

A squaraine prepared from N-chlorobenzyl-N-methylaniline and squaric acid has found utility as a generation layer in a dual-layer photoreceptor with an inverted structure for positive charging applications (Yamamoto et al 1986). The photoreceptor showed full-process stability. [Pg.624]

The effects of introduction of an electronegative j5-substituent in ethoxysilanes Me3 (EtO) SiCH2Y were compared with compounds of inverted structure Me4 Si(OCH2CH2 Y) by Schraml et al. (52) In... [Pg.233]

Examples of acyclic vinylic systems that undergo nucleophilic substitution with complete inversion of configuration are very rare. The reaction of l,2-dibromo-l,2-difluoroethene (9) with p-toluenethiolate affords products of apparently inverted structure without loss of stereochemical purity (Scheme 8). However, the authors are not sure whether this is due to the stereospecificity of the reaction or to the thermodynamic stabilities of the products. [Pg.5]

H2C=C—CH(Y)—CH2— CH2—X (X and Y are N or double bonds). These sequences may only be found in CCLXXII and this leads to structure CCLXX for apparicine itself (S i ). An alternative invert structure CCLXXVI for apparicine was excluded on biogenetic grounds (43). The names pericalline, tabernoschizine, and gomezine are synonjnns of apparicine (S6). [Pg.273]

The above chemistry is believed to lead to an inverted structure. Crosslinked polymer spheres are separated by a silica or silicate rich phase with siloxane bonds grafting the two phases together. This would lead to some of the unusual properties which have been observed including a high stress at low extension and high water transmission through a hydrophilic continuum. (28)... [Pg.125]

Transparent polymer solar cells (i.e., polymer solar cells with transparent electrodes) can be easily fabricated based on inverted architecture and have important application in tandem architectures as well. We can form transparent solar cells by replacing the Al top electrode with 12 nm Au in the inverted structure. The J-V curves for this transparent polymer solar cell, with light incident from ITO and Au side, are shown in Figure 11.17. The difference between the two J-V curves is due to the partial loss by the reflection and absorption at the semitransparent Au electrode. To provide sufficient electrical conductance, Au layer thickness has to be sufficient and the optical loss at Au electrode becomes significant. However, the inverted solar cell structure has the V2O5 layer which is not only transparent but also provides effective protection to the polymer layer. A transparent conductive oxides electrode, such as ITO, can therefore be deposited without compromising device performance. [Pg.343]

The Tohoky University, Japan (Min et al.) reported a p-PEFC using micro-fabrication techniques [3]. This FC is based on two different designs, the alternatively inverted structure and the coplanar structure . These structures use Si substrates with porous SiOj layers with Pt-based catalytic electrodes and gas feed holes, glass substrates with micro-gas channels and a polymer membrane (Flemion S). In spite of a reported enhancement [4], the FC reached poor results, the power density is only 0.8 mW cm . ... [Pg.125]
