Interpolation operations

The main trouble with interpolation operation is that it can modify the gray level values, affecting the evaluation of the similarity function. This effect can lead to incorrect registration results if a histogram-based metric, such as Ml or NMl, is used. Often, the image dynamic is reduced to avoid this effect. [Pg.83]

Figure 3 Illustration of the restriction and interpolation operations. Full weighting restriction (left) averages the three fine-grid values to yield the coarse-grid value. Interpolation injects the values from the coarse grid, which are included in the fine grid, and averages two coarse values to generate the intermediate fine-grid value. In this last formula the coarse-grid index / is located at the point just to the left of the fine-grid point (Figure 3). In higher dimensions, the best way to enact the interpolation is to perform the operation as a series of interpolations on lines, that is, as a series of one-dimensional operations. This has the same approximation order and is easy to code. The symbol used for the interpolation operator is... [Pg.240]

At the PNP level, our group has developed an efficient FAS-MG solver for the coupled equations, and we found that the choice of relaxation and interpolation schemes plays a crucial role in stability and efficiency. The Poisson part of the problem is standard and requires no special considerations. The Nernst-Planck part, however, contains strongly varying functions (as discussed above), and this is where focus on the relaxation and interpolation operations is required. [Pg.251]

Accurate temperature measurements in real-life situations are difficult to make using the KTTS. Most easily used thermometers are not thermodynamic that is, they do not operate on principles of the first and second laws. Most practicable thermometers depend upon some principle that is a repeatable and single-valued analogue of temperature, and they are used as interpolation devices of practical and utilitarian temperature scales which are themselves... [Pg.396]

Using these operators, fuzzy inference mechanisms are then developed to manipulate rules that include fuzzy values. The largest difference between fuzzy inference and ordinary inference is that fuzzy inference aUows partial match of input and produces an interpolated output. This technology is useml in control also. See Ref. 94. [Pg.509]

Equations (22-86) and (22-89) are the turbulent- and laminar-flow flux equations for the pressure-independent portion of the ultrafiltra-tion operating curve. They assume complete retention of solute. Appropriate values of diffusivity and kinematic viscosity are rarely known, so an a priori solution of the equations isn t usually possible. Interpolation, extrapolation, even precuction of an operating cui ve may be done from limited data. For turbulent flow over an unfouled membrane of a solution containing no particulates, the exponent on Q is usually 0.8. Fouhng reduces the exponent and particulates can increase the exponent to a value as high as 2. These equations also apply to some cases of reverse osmosis and microfiltration. In the former, the constancy of may not be assumed, and in the latter, D is usually enhanced very significantly by the action of materials not in true solution. [Pg.2040]

Interpolation and extrapolation performance to other operating conditions... [Pg.2578]

The model that best describes operating conditions other than those upon which its parameter estimates are based i.e., the model that best interpolates among and extrapolates from its development conditions, should be the model of choice. [Pg.2578]

Aside from the fundamentals, the principal compromise to the accuracy of extrapolations and interpolations is the interaction of the model parameters with the database parameters (e.g., tray efficiency and phase eqiiilibria). Compromises in the model development due to the uncertainties in the data base will manifest themselves when the model is used to describe other operating conditions. A model with these interactions may describe the operating conditions upon which it is based but be of little value at operating conditions or equipment constraints different from the foundation. Therefore, it is good practice to test any model predictions against measurements at other operating conditions. [Pg.2578]

Useful yield provides an overall measure of the extent to which the sputtered material is used for analysis. It is a quantity employed to estimate the sensitivity of the mass spectrometric method. Values of Y (X (A)) for elements typically range from 10 to 10 in TOF SIMS. The number of sputtered particles A per incident primary ion (sputtering yield) can be measured from elemental and multielemental standards under different operational conditions and can, therefore, by judicious interpolation between standards, be estimated with reasonable accuracy for the material being analyzed. [Pg.93]

Interpolation between charts of convergence pressure can be calculated, depending on how close the operating pressure is to the convergence pressure. The K-factor (or K-values) do not change rapidly with convergence pressure, (psia) [79]. [Pg.5]

Standard Ton Conditions. These are taken by industry to represent the refrigeration tonnage of a system when operating with an 86°F condenser temperature and a 5°F evaporator temperature. This is a comparative reference condition and does not need interpolation for effective evaluation of other tonnage requirements and conditions. [Pg.351]

From manufacturers rating tables for air or gas, at the required cfm at inlet operating conditions and the equivalent static pressure calculated in (2), read the rpm and bhp. Interpolate if necessary. [Pg.571]

Notice that the lack of specificity of the periodic law as then conceived does not entail that Mendeleev failed to operate in a precise way locally. For example, he himself gave a clear account of his approach to working out some of the main relationships between the properties of the elements in his textbook The Principles of Chemistry. The method consists of simultaneous interpolation within groups or columns as well as within periods or rows of the periodic table. The average of the values of the numerical properties of the four elements flanking the element in question are taken to determine the latter s properties. So Mendeleev wrote ... [Pg.75]

The C matrix, the columns ofwhich, Cj(, are the eigenvectors of H, is normally not too different from the matrix defined above. However, the QDPT treatment, applied either to an adiabatic or to a diabatic zeroth-order basis, is necessary in order to prevent serious artefacts, especially in the case of avoided crossings [27]. The preliminary diabatisation makes it easier to interpolate the matrix elements of the hamiltonian and of other operators as functions of the nuclear coordinates and to calculate the nonadiabatic coupling matrix elements ... [Pg.351]

Despite the aforementioned shortcomings the experimental data obtained using commercial autoclaves can be kinetically inteipreted in spite of non-isothermal operation, as shown further on in this chapter. Kinetic expressions obtained in this manner will rather be interpolation equations than equations reflecting real reaction mechanisms. [Pg.295]
