The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry Macromolecular Nomenelature Commission has developed rales for the naming of polymers. A very truncated description of the rules is given here. The Commission on Macromolecular Nomenclature of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry has published a nomenclature for single-strand organic polymers Pure and Applied Chemistry, 48, 375 (1976)). In addition the Association for Science Education in the UK has made recommendations based on a more general lUPAC terminology, and these have been widely used in British schools. Some examples of this nomenclature compared with normal usage are given in Table 2. 

The Commission of Nomenclature of the Macromolecular Division of lUPAC International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) formulated general rules for the nomenclature of polymers (relevant publications see Sect. 1.4.4). Selected recommendations are explained in the following paragraph.

So, when Sadron went to the International Union of Chemistry, later to become the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, a Commission on Macromolecular Chemistry was established and that Commission started this series of international symposia. Well, that s the background as I know it.
