International Cooperative Biodiversity Group

This chapter describes the background and rationale and some of the results from the first 4 years of an International Cooperative Biodiversity Group (ICBG) working in the South American nation of Suriname. Although the major focus will be on the chemistry that was carried out, the cooperative nature of the project and the importance of the results achieved in other areas demand that some account of the work of other members of the group be included. Before describing the research that was done, it will be helpful to review the overall rationale for this work.
