Integrated Waste Strategy

The Environment Report (Reference 1.12).describes those elements of the APIOOO design that could directly impact a generic UK site. The Environment Report itself is supported by several technical reports, including the APIOOO Disposability Assessment - UKP-GW-GL-012 (Reference 1.13)andthe APIOOO Integrated Waste Strategy (Reference 1.14). Information from the Environment Report is used to imderpin those claims in the PCSR that refer to the management of environmental impact and radioactive waste disposal. [Pg.34]

The Environment Report (Reference 14.4) and Integrated Waste Strategy Report (Reference 14.7) set out radioactive waste management strategies and demonstrate the process chosen are the Best Available Technique (BAT). A brief summary of this BAT assessment is provided in this Pre-Construction Safety Report (PCSR) (Chapter 15). [Pg.455]

During the operational lifecycle of the APIOOO, solid radioactive wastes will be generated. Further details on the sources of solid radioactive wastes and the solid radwaste treatment system are provided in Section 3.5 of the Environment Report (Reference 14.4) and Integrated Waste Strategy (IWS) report (Reference 14.7). The solid waste streams comprise ... [Pg.462]

An Integrated Waste Strategy (IWS) has been produced for the generic APIOOO site. This IWS is presented in the UK APIOOO Integrated Waste Strategy (Reference 15.5) and the UK APIOOO Environment Report (Reference 15.6). The IWS includes both the higher-activity wastes (i.e., high and intermediate level) and low-level wastes. [Pg.481]

It further addresses the importance of using some types of energy-derived waste as alternative raw materials for certain valuable components. Moreover, the book showcases research on how certain waste materials can be utilized for energy production, an increasingly important aspect of modem integrated waste management strategies. The main objectives are to ... [Pg.3]

Ideally, the need for recycling and wastewater treatment should be considered at the onset of the design of a production process. Whenever feasible, a point of source treatment strategy should be adopted. Such an approach should form part of an integrated waste management view. The treatment of process liquors near to their source often has the following additional advantages. [Pg.8]

Before focusing on landfill activities alone, it is worth looking briefly at the other elements of a waste management hierarchy in order to be able to better identify the role of landfill disposal within an integrated waste management strategy. [Pg.13]
