Prazosin Insulin

The elements present in a host of pharmaceutical substances are determined quantitatively by atomic absorption spectroscopy, for example Pd in carbenicillin sodium Cu, Pb and Zn in activated charcoal Fe in ascorbic acid Ag in cisplatin Ph and Zn in copper sulphate Zn in glucogen Zn in insulin Pb in oxprenolol hydrochloride Ni in prazosin hydrochloride Zn in sodium sulphite heptahydrate, and Cd and Pb in zinc oxide. 

Effective antihypertensive therapy should include agents that do not adversely affect carbohydrate metabolic abnormalities. Commonly used antihypertensive agents, such as thiazide, thiazide-like diuretics and /3-blockers, are associated with glucose intolerance and increased insulin resistance (Sowers, 1991). In contrast, calcium antagonists and peripheral a-blockers (such as prazosin and terazosin) do not adversely affect glucose tolerance or insulin sensitivity. 

Clinically important, potentially hazardous interactions with albuterol, alpha-blockers, amitriptyline, amoxapine, atenolol, beta-blockers, carteolol, chlorpromazine, clomipramine, cocaine, desipramine, doxepin, ephedra, ergotamine, furazolidone, halothane, imipramine, insulin detemir, MAO inhibitors, metoprolol, nadolol, nortriptyline, oxprenolol, penbutolol, phenelzine, phenoxybenzamine, phenylephrine, pindolol, prazosin, propranolol, protriptyline, sympathomimetics, terbutaline, thioridazine, timolol, tranylcypromine, tricyclic antidepressants, trimipramine, vasopressors...
