Dimer acid-based polyesters being used as thermoplasts, thermoset, and elastomers are used in large quantities as adhesives and coatings. The polyesters, as we have reported herein, may have various commercial applications. Owing to the flexural properties, these low molecular weight linear polyesters of dimer acid may be used as plasticizers providing internal lubrication for various polymers, such as polyimides and inorganic coordination polymers, which may have very poor processibility. 

A Macromolecular Division of lUPAC was created in 1967, and it created a permanent Commission on Macromolecular Nomenclature, parallel to the other nomenclature commissions. The Commission over the years has issued recommendations on basic definitions, stereochemical definitions and notations, stmcture-based nomenclature for regular single-strand organic polymers and regular single-strand and quasisingle-strand inorganic and coordination polymers, source-based nomenclature for copolymers, and abbreviations for polymers. AH of these are coUected in a compendium referred to as the lUPAC Purple Book (99).

Regular single-strand inorganic and coordination polymers... 

The names of inorganic and coordination polymers are based on the same fundamental principles that were developed for organic polymers. As in the nomenclature of organic polymers, these rules apply to structural representations that may at times be idealised and do not take into account irregularities, chain imperfections or random branching.

A final example concerns the formation of heteropolynuclear hydroxide complexes.116 The complexes [(OH)Fe(OH)2Cr]3+, [(OH)Fe(OH)2Cr(OH)]2+ and [(OH)2Fe(OH)2Cr(OH)]+, or polymers such as Fe(OH)2M "+ (M = V, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu n = 2-4) have been studied with a view to an understanding of the inclusion of transition metals in iron ores as mixed oxides rather than their occurrence as discrete mineral phases. Many other examples might have been chosen in this section. Reference should be made to the general reviews given above. However it should be clear that simple inorganic coordination complexes play a major role in the chemistry of natural aqueous systems at low temperatures.
