Inner direct product

The antisymmetrizer -d merely selects a certain portion of the total Hilbert space of H = HSF + fl this portion is antisymmetric under the group S r 0 Sn". Here the inner, direct product group S F 0 SN contains elements P Q, Pe SfF, Q e SN such that P — Q. The space W is invariant with respect to the group S F 0 Ss . Since the only physically observed electronic states are of antisymmetric symmetry, this symmetry is always conserved, and hence in a certain sense less interesting. We will always assume that electronic kets for H are of this symmetry, though we will not label the kets with this symmetry. [Pg.5]

Since the inner direct product of eq. (11-3) is the only one which contains the totally symmetric representation Als, only the 1B2u and 3Blu curves will mix within the harmonic approximation. In the adiabatic approximation, however, certain vibrational motions may destroy the point group symmetry and allow the 1BZu state to mix with the 3B2u and 3Elu states. [Pg.39]

Bark can roughly be divided into living inner bark or phloem and dead outer bark or rhytidome. The tissues of the bark substance are formed either by primary or secondary growth. The primary growth means direct production of embryonal cells at the growing points of the stem apex and their further development to primary tissues. Epidermis, cortex, and primary phloem are primary tissues (Fig. 6-1). The formation of secondary tissues... [Pg.98]

The multiplication operator extends in two ways depending on the indexical relationships. One extension is the ordinary array (inner) product, while the other is the direct product. [Pg.243]

The reaction is carried out in a 2-litre long-necked round-bottomed flask, to which is fitted an efficient reflux water-condenser, capable of condensing a sudden rush of vapour without choking. For this purpose, a long bulb-condenser, similar to that shown in Fig. 3(A) (p. 9) is best, but the inner tube must be of wide bore (at least 12 mm.). Alternatively, an air-condenser of wide bore may be used, an.d a short double-surface water-condenser fitted to its top. A steam-distillation fitting for the flask should also be prepared in advance, so that the crude product can subsequently be steam-distilled directly from the flask. The glj cerol used in the preparation must be anhydrous, and should therefore be dehydrated by the method described on p. 113. [Pg.298]

Pour typical weU patterns for contaminant plume containment are described in Ref. 16. The first is a pair of injection-production weUs. The second is a line of downgradient pumping weUs. The third is a pattern of injection-production weUs around the boundary of a plume. The fourth, the double-cell system, uses an inner ceU and outer recirculation ceU, with four ceUs along a line bisecting the plume in the direction of flow. Two other methods of plume containment are bio filters and a fuimel-and-gate system, which are described in the in bioremediation section. [Pg.169]

The projection of the X data vectors onto the first eigenvector produces the first latent variable or pseudomeasurement set, Zx. Of all possible directions, this eigenvector explains the greatest amount of variation in X. The second eigenvector explains the largest amount of variability after removal of the first effect, and so forth. The pseudomeasurements are called the scores, Z, and are computed as the inner products of the true measurements with the matrix of loadings, a ... [Pg.25]

Adrenal medulla. Derived from neural crest tissue, the adrenal medulla forms the inner portion of the adrenal gland. It is the site of production of the catecholamines, epinephrine and norepinephrine, which serve as a circulating counterpart to the sympathetic neurotransmitter, norepinephrine, released directly from sympathetic neurons to the tissues. As such, the adrenal medulla and its hormonal products play an important role in the activity of the sympathetic nervous system. This is fully discussed in Chapter 9, which deals with the autonomic nervous system. [Pg.132]
