Initiation by electric fields

Initiation by Electric Fields. Silver Azide can be initiated by DC fields of ca 70v (min field strength for explosion ca 250v/cm) at extremely low current flow (Bowden Yoffe Fast Reactions in Solids Acad Press (1958) p 101). Maycock Grabenstein [Science 152, 508 (1966) CA 65, 562 (1966)] have postulated that piezoelectric effects generated by compressing explosive crystals may generate sufficiently large electric fields to initiate these crystals... [Pg.370]

In summary, we have shown that the experimental results on the o(7) of SWCNT networks, can be explained by the model based on PhAT initiated by electric field. An advantage of this model over the often used VRH model is the possibility to describe the behavior of I-V data measured at both high and low T with the same set of parameters characterizing the material. On the basis of this model, the phenomenon of the crossover from non-metallic to metallic behavior of the conductivity is explained. The decrease of conductivity at T > Tc in the framework of this model is a result of the temperature dependent carrier tunneling process attended by the phonon emission. [Pg.257]

The fixed layer is insufficient to neutralize the charges at the capillary wall, and therefore, an outer layer of cations is also attracted to the silica wall to form a diffused layer [1]. When an electric field E is applied across the capillary, the cations in the diffused layer will migrate toward the negatively charged cathode and drag the bulk electrolyte through the capillary. This flow of liquid relative to the stationary surface initiated by electric field is called electroosmotic flow (EOF), Heo, which is expressed as Eq. 7 ... [Pg.270]

Alternatively, a process based on the combustion synthesis starting with the elements initiated by electric field activation has been used by Xue and Munir [325]. Likewise, homogeneous single-phase AlN-SiC solid solution powders with well-crystallized hexagonal morphologies and a fine particle size of 3 pm have been obtained by Mei and Li through the combustion reaction of aluminum, carbon, and Si3N4 powder mixtures in air [326]. [Pg.166]
