Inhibins recombinant

Recombinant inhibins and activins have also been produced. This allows detailed study of the role the various members of this family play in the reproductive axis and facilitates assessment of their therapeutic potential. 

Immunization of various animal species with recombinant inhibin promotes increased ovulation rates, presumably due to ensuing immunoneutralization of endogenous inhibin. While such a strategy might be useful, e.g. in producing super-fertile animals, the recent discovery of inhibins role as a tumour suppressor may militate against such an approach. 

Direct administration of recombinant inhibin inhibits ovulation in females (via inhibition of FSH secretion). It also inhibits spermatogenesis when administered to males. This last effect...
