Ingredients, packaging

To prevent pests from entering a facility, it is necessary to have an effective monitoring program to assure that products are pest free when they arrive at the site. Raw materials (i.e., ingredients, packaging, and equipment) should be inspected to assure that they do not serve as vehicles for pest entry. Truck and/or railcar unloading sites are possible sources of insect entry into the facility. [Pg.265]

Margarine and butter contain fat plus water and water-soluble ingredients, eg, salt and milk soHds that impart flavor and color to the product. Generally these products are distributed at refrigerated temperatures to retain their quaHty. Greaseproof packaging, such as polyethylene-coated paperboard, aluminum foil/paper, parchment paper wraps, and polypropylene tubs, is used for butter and margarine (see Dairy substitutes). [Pg.449]

The Fair Packaging and Labeling Act does not apply to products used in professional estabHshments. Specifically, this means that these products are not required to have an identity statement or a Hst of ingredients. This exception, however, is limited only to those products actually intended for professional use. Products sold by the professional estabHshments to their customers for personal use are considered retail products and must be fully labeled as such. [Pg.460]

In petroleum and oxygenate finish removers, the major ingredient is normally acetone, methyl ethyl ketone [78-93-3], or toluene. Cosolvents include methanol, / -butanol [71-36-3], j -butyl alcohol [78-92-2], or xylene [1330-20-7]. Sodium hydroxide or amines are used to activate the remover. Paraffin wax is used as an evaporation retarder though its effectiveness is limited because it is highly soluble in the petroleum solvents. CeUulose thickeners are sometimes added to liquid formulas to assist in pulling the paraffin wax from the liquid to form a vapor barrier or to make a thick formula. Corrosion inhibitors are added to stabili2e tbe formula for packaging (qv). [Pg.551]

Single-dose preparations intended for use in eye surgery do not contain excipient ingredients, in order to avoid tissue irritation. However, multiple-dose containers may require antioxidants (qv), antimicrobial preservatives, or buffers to maintain stabiHty and stefiHty. Such solutions are packaged in polyethylene flexible dropper units called droptainers or in glass dropper botdes. [Pg.234]

The diversity of radionucHde half-life and chemical nature of commonly used radiopharmaceuticals demands a variety of formulation matrices, packaging containers, and storage conditions. The containers, ingredients, and processes used in these products must meet the stringent requirements for parenteral pharmaceuticals, as well as provide safe conditions for storage, handling, and disposal of the radioactive material. [Pg.483]
