The band electronic structure of kl-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu(CF3)4(TCE) was calculated through the use of Hiickel tight binding computations [39] and the infrared properties analyzed [40]. These calculations indicate that the electronic band structure [10, 41] and infrared response [42] is similar to that found in the k-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu(dca)X (X = Cl and Br) salts. Specific heat measurements of kl-(BEDT-TTF)2Ag(CF3)4(TCE) indicate a linear coefficient (y = 50 mJ mol 1 K2), which is a factor of nine greater than expected from a free-electron picture [43],... 

For all IR-based TPH methods, the C-H absorbance is quantified by comparing it to the absorbance of standards of known concentration. An assumption is made that the standard has an aliphatic-to-aromatic ratio and an infrared response similar to that of the sample. Consequently, it is important to use a calibration standard as similar to the type of contamination as possible (EPA 418.1). 

A pn-junction layer 1 of HgCdTe, which has a passivation layer 12, is bonded to a silicon multiplexer chip 2 by a bonding layer 4. The lower layer 9 of the heterojunction I is p-type and the upper layer 10 is n-type. Holes 8 are ion-etched right through the semiconductor layer to contact pads 6. The regions of the layer 9 forming the walls of the holes are converted to n-type by the ion beam. A homojunction is thus formed in parallel with the heterojunction. The compositions are selected so that the heterojunctions determine the infrared response and noise characteristics and the homojunctions act as noiseless isolation devices. 

As elements, arsenic and antimony are used in lead alloys in the electrodes of storage batteries and in the semiconductor industry. Gallium arsenide is used as a light-detecting material with near infrared response and in lasers, including ones used for CD players. 

Specific fuel used may be decided more by local availability than specific formulation requirements. Although jet fuels may vary in composition, they typically show the same infrared response as diesel fuel in a contaminated lubricant. For this reason, the diesel method described above is also used for the jet fuels JP5 and JP8. 

In a sample with a restored infrared response, the first glow peak reappears but seems weaker than would be expected from the photoresponse. 

Other Solvents. Similar spectra to those of biphenyl in MCH glass are obtained in 3-MP glass, but in this case the response in the infrared disappears rapidly at 77 °K. At the low dose rate employed (80 rads/ min.), the infrared response is hardly measurable 20 min. after irradiation ends but can be increased considerably by illumination in the 15,500 cm.-1 anion band (Figure 4). 

Buben and co-workers (32, 41,42) investigated RPL excitation spectra, and they observed in aromatic matrices a similar concomitant decrease of two types of bands (42). They attributed one of these to anions and the other to trapped holes. In our case at least, this hypothesis does not apply because it would be incompatible with the observed restoration of the infrared response and of the first glow peak which can be fully explained by the photodetachment of electrons from biphenyl anions and their retrapping in the matrix. 

The observed link between infrared response of a sample and the first glow peak proves conclusively that electrons liberated from the matrix are responsible for the first peak. 

Of the techniques utilized, photocalorlmetry Is the method of choice to give a quantitative measurement of percent conversion. Using photo-DSC to define a cure response/lrradlatlon time relationship makes It possible to plot mechanical or Infrared response versus percent conversion. The results are listed In Table II and Illustrated In Figure 8.

The only semiconductors which have been employed in phototransistors in any large quantities are Ge and Si. The former has a limited infrared response. The latter responds in the visible and very near infrared. Neither has found application where high performance is essential. 

As the discussion of the semitransparent GaAs photocathode will show, there are a tremendous number of trade-offs involved in the selection of materials parameters for NEA emitters, especially in those for imaging applications. As a result, a large number of variants of a seemingly identical device may become available when more devices are offered commercially, and none of these standard variants may perform as well as a device tailored to a user s specific application. This is similar to the forced choice of high sensitivity, low dark current, or fully extended infrared response in the case of the S-1 phototube. For NEA devices, however, the choices may be of even greater complexity.
