Information provision attitudes

The machinations of environmental dehates have revealed that awareness lies at the root of concern, which, in turn, is instrumental in the investment of effort or attracting support for environmental initiatives. The execution of a CVM survey therefore has to tread a careful path to reveal concern and latent willingness to dedicate economic resources to environmental protection without influencing respondents prevaUing attitudes. In other words, the survey is not intended as an awareness-raising instrument, yet respondents must be empowered by the provision of some decision-making support information in order to mimic a real market situation as closely as possible. 

The treatment of chemistry within the formal educational system is addressed in the other chapters in this section. Until the solutions proposed there are widely implemented, the provision of opportunities for informal chemical education will be the main way of changing negative attitudes. Such attempts are necessary because of the major significance of chemical ideas for personal, social, and cultural life we take up the issue of justification at the end of this chapter. 

Most of these objections were based on the general public s attitude to the imposition of seat belts on them. Overtime people have changed their attitudes and, therefore, their behaviour has changed. This has been achieved through various means, such as advertising, law enforcement, provision of information, etc.
