Indium complexes hydrides

Iridium(III) hydride forms complexes with DIOP, BDPP (2,4-bis(diphenyl-phosphino)pentane), NORPHOS, and BINAP ligands to produce amines in 11 -80% ee.679 Similar modest results are obtained in the reduction of N-arylketimines with an iridium(HI) complex with (2S,3 S) -C HIRA PHOS as the chiral ligand.680 The indium complexes with chiral phosphinodihydrooxazoles catalyze the enantioselective hydrogenation of imines in supercritical carbon dioxide with up to 80% ee, but generally lower ee values are observed in... 

In the report that described the synthesis of 108 (777), Whitmire also observed that the reaction between NaBi03 and methanolic [Fe(CO)s] in the presence of hydroxide afforded the trianionic species [Bi Fe(CO)4 4]3, 110, which was subsequently characterized by X-ray crystallography (775). Cluster 110 contains a central bismuth atom tetrahedrally coordinated by four Fe(CO)4 fragments and is isoelectronic with the anionic tetracobalt-indium complex, 27, and the neutral tetracobalt-germanium, - tin, and -lead complexes, 68, 71, and 72. Oxidation of 110 affords 108 (777), while acidification (772) yields the hydride-containing cluster [BiFe3(CO)9(/i-H)3], 111, which also contains a tetrahedral BiFe3 core. A mixed indium hydride halide complex, (l) InH2Cl (29) has been prepared from the 1 1 reaction of [InH2Cl(NMe3) ] with carbene (1) (R = Mes, R = H), as shown in Scheme iP The structure of (29) is monomeric with the geometry at the In center close to tetrahedral. The In-C distance (2.244(6) A) is similar to those observed in (28) (2.200(7) A) and (25) (2.253(5) A). A related mixed gallium hydride iodide complex (1) GaH2l (30) has been isolated from the reaction of (26) with GaT, with concomitant deposition of galhum metal. Complex (30) is isostructural with the related indium complex (29) and has a Ga-C bond distance of 2.022(4) A. 

The oxidative addition of alkanes with formation of alkyl hydride complexes was first demonstrated directly in studies using indium complexes [14], Thus the iridium dihydride derivative Cp lr(H)jPMe3 (Cp = pentamethylcyclopenta-dienyl) after irradiation in solution in cyclohexane or neopentane, produces the complexes Cp (PMe3)Ir(H)(C6Hn) and Cp (PMe3)Ir(H)CH2CMe3 in a satisfactory yield. Other saturated hydrocarbons and benzene also readily add to an iridium complex. 

In some cases a coordinatively unsaturated species and then a product of oxidative addition can be formed via a rearrangement of the complex molecule without elimination of any particles (e.g., olefin complex IV-5 may be converted into the t-allyl hydride derivative IV-6 in Scheme IV. 11 [20c]). Analogously, photolysis of butadiene indium complex IV-7 gives rise to the formation of a hydrido-allyl isomer IV-8 [20d].
