Inattention defined

The most useful diagnostic criteria for ADHD is the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders, 4th edition, Text Revision (DSM-IV-TR) (Table 39-1). The DSM-IV-TR defines three subtypes of ADHD (1) predominately inattentive, (2) predominantly hyperactive/impulsive, and (3) combined, in which both inattentive and hyperactive symptoms are evident.11... 

In both disorders the described behaviors are very similar, but the ICD-10 defines a more severe disorder with a guarded prognosis (1) all three core problems of attention, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness should be present (whereas the DSM-IV defines three subtypes predominantly inattentive type, hyperactive impulsive type, and combined type) (2) pervasiveness throughout different situations is determined by more stringent criteria and (3) the presence of another mental or behavioral disorder is an exclusion criterion. 

The symptoms of inattention, distractibility, and/or hyperactivity that define attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) improve when treated with the stimulant drug Ritalin. For long-term success, however, the behaviors associated with these symptoms can also addressed with different techniques, some of which have been described in Chapter 2. 

Initiating event alternatives 1 and 2 are really the same, possibly differing only in impact velocity when striking a fixed object. Alternative 3 represents a less defined crash of the forklift/cask, which may produce less stress on the cask due to the yielding of the other vehicle. In addition, such an other-vehicle crash is unlikely since access to the transfer route is required to be limited during the actual transfer operation. The cask is not elevated while on the forklift in transit from the ACRR to the HCF. The cask is raised and lowered by crane and positioned for transport in a special carrier basket, previously attached to the forklift tines. In conclusion, the initiating event is chosen to be Forklift strikes a fixed object due to operator inattention or mechanical failure."... 

If the behavioral trait that led to the occurrence is allowed to continue unchecked, the driver inevitably will be involved in a crash. Defining poor behavior and looking at the drivers performance may provide insight into which drivers are taking unnecessary risks, becoming short tempered, inattentive, or generally unsafe. 

The Unsafe Driving BASIC includes trafl c violations while operating a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) as defined in 390.5 (i.e., 10,001 poimds or greater). Examples of violations might include speeding, reckless driving, improper lane change, and inattention.
