INADEQUATE METHOD

Four oxazocine rings and 15 benzoxazocine systems are possible a compilation of the literature on these compounds has been prepared (82H(19)709). Many of these ring systems have been described in patents and rather obscure journals, and in a number of cases the evidence for structural assignments is inadequate. Methods of preparation include cyclization of polyfunctional chains, and ring expansions or rearrangement of several types. Some representative examples of oxazocines and benzoxazocines that have been well characterized are compounds (305)-(310).

In addition due to inadequate methods for in situ analysis at ambient concentrations analysis of airborne particles in their various forms has been limited. Even if the aerosols are analysed in detail changes have been found to occur in aerosol composition when collected by filters as they tend to react with the filter material itself. Therefore not only is improved identification of sulphate and nitrate speciation reaction mechanisms required but also improved techniques for in situ analysis to facilitate greater understanding of the quantitative aspects of the atmosphere which play a fundamental role in the long range transport of these pollutants. 

These claims were immediately challenged through molecular dynamics simulation by Chialvo and Cummings [65] and by Loffler et al [131], and at once it became clear that the NDIS-93 data were seriously flawed. The general principles of design of multicomponent fractionators are the same in many respects as those for binary systems, but the dearth of adequate vapor-liquid equilibrium data imposes severe restrictions on their application. These are especially needed for liquids which are not ideal, and the danger of attempting new designs without adequate equilibrium data or pilot-plant study for such solutions cannot be overemphasized.
