Yamazaki, K., Beauchamp, G.K., Kupniewski, D., Bard, J., Thomas, L. and Boyse E.A. (1988) Familial imprinting determines H-2 selective mating preferences. Science 240, 1331-1332. [Pg.140]

The host range of the tobacco hornworm (Manduca sexta) is limited to selected members of the family Solanaceae. In an effort to better understand the chemical basis for the host plant selection process, we have undertaken an examination of both hornworm preferred and non-preferred members of the Solanaceae. Our investigations have shown this tc be a complex system involving the subtle interaction between such behavioral modulators as (1) Ovipositional stimulants (2) Feeding stimulants and imprinters (3) Anti-feedants (A) Repel-lants (5) Insecticides. The results of these investigations will be discussed. [Pg.245]

A multiplicity of factors contribute to the conflicts and confusion in little boys. Respect for authority in general is on the decline in society. Boys are culturally encouraged, and even trained, to suppress their tender ( feminine ) sides. Meanwhile, the culture too often encourages them to feel and to act domineering and hostile toward girls and women. These lessons are imprinted through TV and other entertainment media and reinforced in sports and on the playground as well as in some families. [Pg.272]

The Lab-on-Chip flow system comprises several miniaturised components, such as imprinted manifolds and electro-osmotic pumps, integrated within a single device. It is within the family of microfluidic techniques further discussion is outside of the scope of this monograph. [Pg.186]

Hata, K., Okano, M., Lei, H., and Li, E., Dnmt3L cooperates with the Dnmt3 family of de novo DNA methyltransferases to establish maternal imprints in mice. Development, 129 (8), 1983-1993,2002. [Pg.29]

So far, the use of MIPs in catalysis has been limited to transformations involving specifically imprinted compounds. From a practical standpoint, it is unrealistic to envision the current technology utilized in natural product syntheses or method development procedures. Useful catalysts are reactive and selective towards entire families of substrates, and imprinting technology is not currently suited for this. [Pg.146]

The authors assessed MIP-CD efhcacy using terminal C7-C16 alkenes. The results are presented in Fig. 2.9. For the two MIP-CD families, the imprinted macrocycles are always more efficient than the nonimprinted, except for 1-nonene. The size of the tanplate also seems to be important, as the... [Pg.29]
