Impingement eliminator

Impingement eliminator Mass moment of inertia Tank with a set of profile plates of different types Gas flow is spht up into many single flows and repeatedly deflected. Due to inertia the drops caimot foUow the flow of the gas and thus are eliminated on the impingement surfaces. Small compact construction because of high face velocity, very high efficiency even for very fine drops, low pressure drop on weU-formed profiles, increasing use. [Pg.484]

Following each use the impingement mixing chamber is cleared by advancing a piston that eliminates the need for solvent flushing as is required for low pressure machines. [Pg.418]

The oil-fiimace process, based on the partial combustion of Hquid aromatic residual hydrocarbons, was first introduced in the United States at the end of World War II. It rapidly displaced the then dominant channel (impingement) and gas-furnace processes because it gave improved yields and better product quahties. It was also independent of the geographical source of raw materials, a limitation on the channel process and other processes dependent on natural gas, making possible the worldwide location of manufacturing closer to the tire customers. Environmentally it favored elimination of particulate air pollution and was more versatile than all other competing processes. [Pg.544]

Eliminate turned-down vents from safety relief valves, i.e., upside down U. Possible accidental ignition of releases from such vents wiU likely result in flame impingement on the top external surface of the tank, above the internal wetted surface. BLEXT Some means to handle rainwater from a desirable upward vertical vent have been listed by Bodurtha (ibid., April 1988). Moreover, a safety relief valve must function properly when required and must be sized properly to help prevent an explosion. [Pg.2322]

A stationary separator element of knitted small diameter wire or plastic material is formed of wire 0.003 in. to 0.016 in. (or larger) diameter into a pad of 4 inches, 6 inches or 12 inches thick and serves as the impingement surface for liquid particle separation. Solid particles can be separated, but they must be flushed from the mesh to prevent plugging. Although several trade name units are available they basically perform on the same principle, and have very close physical characteristics. Carpenter [4] presented basic perform.ance data for mesh units. Figure 4-15 shows a qpical eliminator pad. [Pg.246]

So far as possible, components that operate in highly turbulent-flow conditions should be designed with a view to eliminating cavitation and/or impingement erosion attack. [Pg.69]

The ideal design is one in which ail parts can be operated satisfactorily with water flowing with the least turbulence and aeration, and at a rate of flow within the limits that the materials involved can securely withstand. These limits, with regard to flow-rate limitations, vary with the material, as described in Section 1.2, but turbulence, aeration or presence of suspended particulates can lower these limits considerably, and designs that eliminate these two factors go a long way towards preventing impingement attack, which can be the major cause of failures in sea-water systems. (See also Sections 1.6 and 2.1.)... [Pg.73]

Note about infrared radiation (IR) filters In the bolometer just described, the optimum conductance to the heat sink is G 2 x 10-10 W/K. This means that an absorbed power of the order of 1(T10 W saturates the bolometer. Since the bolometer is a broad-band detector, it would receive, e.g., a power of the order of 10 7 W from a 30 K black body. Of course, optical filtering is needed to reduce the bandwidth of the impinging radiation. Filtering takes usually place in several steps a room temperature filter eliminates visible light an intermediate temperature filter (at about 77 K) rejects the micron wavelengths, whereas the submillimetre or millimetre filter is made up of a low-pass and an interference band-pass filter. [Pg.342]

The most important feature of this procedure is that it immediately stabilizes CMME for retention on the solid adsorbent. In addition, the derivative significantly increases detector sensitivity enabling detection of CMME (as the derivative) at low parts-per-billion levels in air. This approach eliminates the need for impingers and the need for thermal desorption. [Pg.173]

Vane eiiminators force gas flow to undergo directional changes as it passes between parallel plates. Droplets impinge on plate surfaces, coalesce and fail to a liquid collecting spot for routing to the liquid-collection section of the vessel. Vane-type eliminators are sized by their manufacturers to assure a certain minimum pressure drop. [Pg.94]
