A soln. of N-phenyliminocarbonyl chloride, ca. 2 eqs. tri- -butyl(trimethylsilylethy-nyl)tin, and a little dichlorobis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(II) in benzene stirred at 70° for 5 h, diluted with ether, and treated with aq. KF at room temp, for 15 min -> (N-phenyl)bis(trimethylsilylethynyl)imine (Y 60%), in acetone diluted with water, and treated with BF3-etherate for 2 h at room temp. - product. Y 61%. F.e.s. Y. Poly(imino-l,4-phenyleneiminoterephthaloyl) (XIV) (trade names Kevlar, Twaron) is synthesized from the corresponding para-substituted diamine and diacid chloride. Poly (iminocarbonyl-l,4-phenylene) (XV) (also known as Kevlar) is based on p-aminobenzoic acid.
