Food allergy IgE-mediated

Mechanisms underlying non-IgE mediated food allergy include immune complex formation and activation of lymphocytes. As with IgE-mediated responses, manifestations can be in the skin, gut, or respiratory tract however, these reactions take several hours to days to develop [65],... [Pg.553]

The IgE-mediated food allergy is one of the main atopie diseases. Its symptoms, espeeially among ehildren, are not disease-eharaeteristie. GI symptoms observed after an ingestion of partieular food are eommonly thought to be the result of previously diagnosed respiratory or skin disorders, thus food allergy may remain misdiagnosed if it eoexists with asthma or atopie eezema/dermatitis. [Pg.119]

Many different symptoms can occur during IgE-mediated food allergies including cutaneous, gastrointestinal, respiratory, and sometimes cardiovascular symptoms (Table 4.3). Reactions can sometimes be fairly mild, but severe and life-threatening reactions involving symptoms such as lar)mgeal edema, asthma, and anaphylactic shock can occur on occasion. [Pg.147]

Severe, life-threatening anaphylactic reactions can occur among a subset of individuals with IgE-mediated food allergies fatalities have been recorded (Bock et al, 2001, 2007 Sampson et al, 1992 Yimginger et al, 1988). In the United States, the majority of fatal food-allergic reactions... [Pg.149]

Prick skin tests are used to screen patients with suspected IgE-mediated food allergies. In Table 3.3.5, there is a list of clinical conditions in which the methods of IgE detection are indicated (Chapman et al., 2006). [Pg.132]
