When neon is used in a discharge lamp radiation is produced predominantly with two close wavelengths, 74.4 nm and 73.6 nm, corresponding to energies of 16.67 eV and 16.85 eV, making this source rather less useful than the more tmly monochromatic, and more highly energetic. He I source. [Pg.292]

Sedimentary rocks have formed as a result of accumulation and compaction of mineral particles derived from pre-existing rocks, transported from their original places of occurrence and deposited in new environments. The essential ingredients for the formation of sedimentary rocks are (i) source materials, (ii) mechanical and chemical disintegration of these source materials, (iii) transportation of the released materials either in a clastic form... [Pg.46]

Among recent examples that highlight the synthetic utility of transition metal-catalyzed hydroborations are its direction toward a formal syntheses of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents Ibuprofen 131 and Naproxen 13214 15 139 as well as the anti-depressant Sertraline 133 (Figure 14).140 In the majority of cases, rhodium-catalyzed hydroboration is utilized and the rhodium(i) source generally is Wilkinson s catalyst RhCl(PPh3)3. [Pg.864]

Organobis(cupratesY, spiroannelation.16 1,4-Dilithiobutane, prepared from 1,4-dichlorobutane and lithium in ether at 0°, on reaction with copper thiophenoxide (2 equiv.) forms a biscuprate, formulated as 1 for convenience. This dimetallic reagent adds to 3-halo-5,5-dimethyl-2-cyclohexenones (2) to form the spiro-[4.5]decanone 3 in yields as high as 96%. Cuprates prepared from other Cu(I) sources are less efficient, as is the cuprate prepared from di-Grignard reagents... [Pg.225]

An extensive spectroscopic and mechanistic study on the enantioselective Cu/ferrocenyl bisphosphine-catalyzed conjugate addition has been performed. Several parameters such as solvent, nature of the halide present in the Grignard reagent and Cu(I) source, and additives (i.e. dioxane and crown ethers) were identified. These factors directly affect the formation and nature of the intermediate active species, and therefore the selectivity, rate and overall outcome of the reaction. Importantly, the presence of and Br ions in the reaction are essential in order to achieve high selectivity and efficiency. [Pg.788]
