The active ingredients for hypericum include cyclopseudohypericin, hypericin, hyperforin, isohypericin, protohypericin, and pseudohypericin. Other active ingredients include the following flavonoids hyperin, hyperoside, isoquercitrin, kaempferol, luteolin, quercetin, quercitrin, rutin, and the following biflavonoids amentoflavone and 13,118-biapigenin. Hypericum perforatum (devil s scourge, goat weed, rosin rose, St. John s wort, Tipton weed, witch s herb) contains the naphthodianthrones hypericin and pseudohypericin, flavonoids, such as hyperoside, isoquercitin, and rutin, and phloroglucinols, such as adhyperforin and hyperforin. It is effective in mUd to moderate depression (1).

Hypericum perforatum contains several flavonoids. The largest group of them are the common quercetin-based flavonol glycosides, hyperoside 42, rutin 41, quercitrin 39 and isoquercitrin 40 [85]. Among the aglycones, quercetin 38, kaempferol 43, luteolin 44 and myricetin 45 have been reported to occur [86]. Berghofer and Holzl found two biflavones in... 

Liu et al. [391] extracted nine major active components from Hypericum perforatum (rutin, hyperoside, isoquercitrin, quercetin, quercitrin, psuedohypericin. 

However, each constituent in the flower extracts of Hypericum patulum such as an antidepressant and antiviral agent hypericin (15)(Figure 4) which is a naphthodianthrone of a red-coloured anthraquinone derivative in the extract of St John s wort, the flavones quercetin (16) and luteolin (17), the glycosylated flavonoide rutin (18), hyperoside (19) and quercitrin (20) and the biflavone 13, 118-biapigenin (21) (Figure 4) did not inhibit the binding up to their concentrations of 1 j,M.
