Hygienic papers, paper grades

These products are used on a number of grades hygiene papers, some liquid packaging grades, wall paper base, sack grades, etc. 

Paper grades that contain pulp produced by mechanical or chemimechanical processes are referred to as wood-containing papers. Mechanical pulps are mainly used in short-Hfe printing papers, hygienic papers and board. 

Synthetic wet-strength additives are employed primarily to impart strength to paper when it is wetted. These additives are used during the production of many different paper grades hygiene papers, liquid packaging, labels, coffee filter, tea bag, map paper, currency paper, wall paper, sack grades, carrier board (lettuce box, raisin tray, paper plates] etc. [17, 23]. 

Paper manufactured using PVAm wet strength resins is less absorbent than paper manufactured using PAE wet strength resins (Fig. 8.10). This tends to preclude the use of PVAm resins in the manufacture of hygiene grades. 

The bases for hygienic products are tissue grades with basis weights of 5 to 35 g m". Consumer demands drive the tissue industry to ever more softness and absorbency of the tissue grades used e. g. in the bathroom (toilet, facial) or in the kitchen (towels). Softness can be increased by the proper selection of fiber furnish and chemical additives or the proper machine concept and operation e. g. by low or no wet pressing. On the other hand sufficient paper strength and economy of production have to be regarded.
