Oxoiron(IV) porphyrins, one oxidizing equivalent above the resting ferric state, are known as compound II in the catalytic cycle of peroxidases and catalases. The (Porp)Fe =0 complexes can be generated by (i) the homolytic O—O bond cleavage of (Porp)Fe -0-0-Fe (Porp), which is formed by the addition of dioxygen to iron(II) porphyrins in the presence of a nitrogen base, (ii) the chemical oxidation of iron(III) porphyrins by m-CPBA and PhIO under certain circumstances, (iii) the electrochemical oxidation of hydroxoiron(III) porphyrins, and (iv) the reactions of iron(III) porphyrins with hydroperoxides (ROOH) in aqueous or organic solvents. More detailed preparation methods and physical properties of various oxoiron(IV) porphyrin complexes are summarized in recent reviews. ... [Pg.293]

Analysis methods for the determination of hydroperoxides and hydroxyhydro-peroxides in reaction mixtures were developed and applied to photolysis mixtures of aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, carbonyls, alcohols and halogenated hydrocarbons. HPLC with chemiluminescence, electrochemical and fluorescence detection was used for selective detection of hydroperoxides and hydroxohydro-peroxides and gas chromatography with mass spectrometric and flame ionisation detection for the analysis of all reaction products. [Pg.73]

Several comprehensive reviews have been published on the existing chromatographic methods for the analysis of lipophilic antioxidants (tocopherols, tocotrienols, and carotenoids) in various sample matrices (Abidi, 2000 Aust et al., 2001) on electrochemical approaches in the sensing of natural or biological antioxidants and antioxidant capacity (mainly polyphenols and vitamins C and E) using cyclic voltammetry on flow injection analysis (FIA) with amperometric detection in food and biological samples (Blasco et al., 2007) and on chemiluminescence (CL) and fluorescence (FL) methods for the analysis of oxidative stability, antioxidant activity, and lipid hydroperoxide content in edible oils (Christodouleas et al., 2012). [Pg.361]
