In one example, the Tics of the non-crystalline methyl, methine and methylene carbons of iPP, 70% crystalline, were compared at room temperature with those of model atactic poly(propylene), hydrogenated poly(2-methyl-l,3-pentadiene) [163]. It was found that, within the experimental error, the Tic values of each of the carbons were the same in both polymers. The conclusion can then be reached that the fast segmental motion, at or near the Larmor frequency of... [Pg.270]

The use of core-shell impact modifiers combined with styrene-hydrogenated poly butadiene block copolymers in sPS is described by Rohm and Haas [24]. The core of the former type is of polybutadiene or its copolymer, the shell consists predominately of polystyrene. Rohm and Haas found that a synergistic effect is present and that the Izod notched impact strength is higher when both rubber types are used instead of only one. [Pg.424]

Stereoregularity has relatively little effect on the mechanical properties of amorphous vinyl polymers in which the chiral carbons are trisubstituted. Some differences are noted, however, with polymers in which X and Y in 4-14 differ and neither is hydrogen. Poly(methyl methacrylate) (Fig. 1-4) is an example of the... [Pg.130]

Among the published methods in which calibration curves extend down to 0% C3, the most suitable for copolymers with low C3 content should be that of Corish and Tunnicliffe (17). Spectra must be recorded at high temperature (i.e. on molten samples) to eliminate the effects of C2 crystallinity, which are fairly pronounced on the 6.85 p band, as revealed by comparison with spectra recorded at room temperature. The use of standard copolymers prepared with 14C-labelled propylene is recommended. Studies on this topic are being carried out in our laboratory (84) the results so far achieved both on C2-C3 copolymers of various compositions and on models (hydrogenated poly-methyl alkenamers) indicate that the precision of the analysis is consistently improved by taking into account the half-width of the 6.85 p band (i.e. by correlating the C3 molar fraction to the ratio A7.25m/A6.85m... [Pg.105]

Figure 7.16 shows the neutron reflectivity determined by Anastasiadis et al.15 with a sample in which a thin film of a diblock copolymer was deposited on a silicon substrate. The diblock copolymer, of molecular weight 100,000, consists of a block of deuterated polystyrene joined to a block of hydrogenous poly(methyl methacrylate) of about equal length and is therefore expected to organize itself into a lamellar... [Pg.257]

Similar procedures have been used by several workers (Halasa et al., 1982) to hydrogenate poly(l,4-butadiene-co-1,2-butadiene) diblocks (Halasa, 1985) and poly(l,4-butadiene-co-l,4-isoprene-co-1,4-butadiene) triblocks. Hydrogenation of these diblock and triblock copolymers forms thermoplastic elastomers with crystalline and amorphous segments. All these materials exhibit crystallinity, glass transition, solubility, and dynamic mechanical loss spectra different from those of their unsaturated counterparts. [Pg.524]
