Oxidation of thietane 1-oxides to thietane 1,1-dioxides is easy, but not particularly important except as a structure proof, since most sulfones can be made directly from the sulfides. Oxidation reagents that have been used on the sulfoxides are hydrogen peroxide-acetic acid, hydrogen peroxide-formic acid, perbenzoic acid, peroxydodecanoic acid, " and perlauric acid. The relative rates of oxidation of four-, five, and six-membered sulfoxides with perbenzoic acid in 40% dioxane at 25° were similar. Oxidations were more rapid at high pH. [Pg.483]

Decomposition Reactions. - There is a continuing interest in catalytic decomposition and bimetallic catalysts based on iridium have been used with hydrogen peroxide, formic acid, and hydrazine. Activity for hydrogen peroxide... [Pg.72]

The OH radical participates in a number of aqueous-phase reactions at least 16 reactions producing OH and 19 consuming it have been proposed by various investigators. The principal sink for dissolved OH under conditions typical of remote continental clouds is reaction (142). Other sinks are the reactions with hydrogen peroxide, formic acid, and S(IV). The main aqueous-phase sources of OH are reaction (146) and the photolysis of dissolved hydrogen peroxide. Secondary sources are the photolysis of NO and the oxidation of S(IV) by HOz. [Pg.394]

The successful epoxidation of NR, by employing a hydrogen peroxide/formic acid system under controlled conditions, has ensured epoxidized rubber (ENR) its place in the elastomer market. Essentially, ENR of any desired level of epoxidation ranging from 1 to 90% can be prepared. Increasing the level of epoxidation systematically changes the properties of the rubber. The increase in Jg and Mooney viscosity of ENR with increase in epoxidation level is indicated in Table 12.5. Currently ENR 10, 25, 50 and 60 (10, 25, 50 and 60% mole epoxidation, respectively) can be found on the market. Scheme 12.4 shows the structural formulae of ENR. [Pg.308]
