As Figure 9a shows, the fibers grow nearly parallel to each other they appear to grow approximately along the gas streamlines. The fibers are attached by one end to a laminar pyrocarbon deposit which adheres to the tube wall. The "cobbled" appearance of this layer may originate from shorter fibers which have been buried by pyrocarbon. The pyrocarbon deposit is about 0.3 hydrogen by weight, and contains particles of all the metallic constituents of the tube. 

Before measuring enzymatic dig bility, each substrate was treated with a 4 wt% mnmonia and 2 wt% hydrogen peroxide solution and die results were listed in Table 3. Noticeable point in diis table is the solid remaining after the treatment newspaper, office paper, and corrugated paper lost 4%, 18%, and 15% of original weight, respectively. This means that lots of materials in office and corrugated papers were removed from this pretreatment. 

Concentrate the combined filtrate and washings (W) to about half the original volume, and pour it into sUghtly more than the calculated amount of dilute hydrochloric acid (use a mixture of 30 ml. of concentrated hydrochloric acid and 30 ml. of ice-water) then add about 300 ml. of water. Collect the active aec.-octyl hydrogen phthalate (crude lA) as above (5). The weight of the air-dried ester is about half that of the dl-ester originally used (7). 

Calculate (i) the weight of hydrogen peroxide per L of the original solution and (ii) the volume strength , i.e. the number of millilitres of oxygen at s.t.p. that can be obtained from 1 mL of the original solution.
