Hydrogen antimonid

HYDROGEN ANTIMONIDE (7803-52-3) Flammable and thermally unstable gas. Reacts with moisture, forming explosive hydrogen. Elevated temperatures above 390 F/198°C can cause fire and explosion. Reacts violently with strong oxidizers, nitric acid, halogenated hydrocarbons, ozone. Forms heat-sensitive explosive mixtures with ammonia.

Hydrogen Antimonid—Stibin—Antimoniuretted hydrogen— Stibamin—Stibonia—SbHi—138.—It has not been obtained in a condi tion of purity, but is prod need, mixed with H, when a reducible compound of Sb is in presence of nascent H. It is obtained in larger amount, by decomposing an alloy of 400 parts of a 3 sodium amalgam, and 8 parts of freshly reduced, and dried Sb, by HaO, in a current of COa.

Stibine. Sbl h, is formed by hydrolysis of some metal antimonides or reduction (with hydrogen produced by addition of zinc and HC1) of antimony compounds, as in the Gutzeit test. It is decomposed by aqueous bases, in contrast with arsine. It reacts with metals at higher temperatures to give the antimonides. The antimonides of elements of group la. 2a, and 3a usually are stoichiometric, with antimony trivalent. With other metals, the binary compounds are essentially intermetallic. with such exceptions as the nickel series, Ni. Sb.. NiSb, Ni5Sb2 and Ni4Sb. 

When the stibine-hydrogen mixture is passed into a solution of silver nitrate (Hofmann s test) a black precipitate of silver antimonide Ag3Sb is obtained this is decomposed by the excess of silver nitrate into silver and antimony(III) oxide ...
