Hazardous Materials. Hazardous chemicals are, of course, a feature of many chemical plants. Materials used in quantity in the uranium industry include hydrogen, hydrofluoric acid, elementary fluorine, pressurized hydrocarbon oils at elevated temperatures, and uranium which is itself fairly highly toxic. Satisfectory safe techniques for the storage, handling, and containment of these materials, some of which are used at elevated temperatures, have been essential precursors to the development of acceptable processes.
