Hydraulic failure

The retention capacity of individual closures, according to the conditions necessary for hydraulic seal failure, can be predicted from Fig. 12 by the following simple method, (i) Select the aquifer trend most relevant to the particular prospect (based on depth and location), (ii) Extrapolate a hydrocarbon fluid gradient upwards from the closure elevation. There is a risk of hydraulic failure if the fluid gradient intersects with the crestal elevation within the fracture envelope. [Pg.238]

Crestal pressures of GEA pre-Cretaceous hydrocarbon accumulations are also plotted. Most of these points lie within the envelope of LOT/FIT fracture pressures, apparently suggesting that hydrocarbons have been released as a result of hydraulic failure of... [Pg.238]

One aspect of physical compatibility is observed in the case of liquid contents, where sufficient ullage must be provided in order to avoid hydraulic failure as a consequence of the different expansion rates of the contents and its containment systems within the admissible temperature range. Void volume values to provide sufficient ullage may be derived from regulations for the transport of other dangerous goods with comparable properties. [Pg.103]

Hydraulic drums must have an integrally mounted holding device or internal static brake to prevent boom hoist movement in the event of hydraulic failure. [Pg.1263]

Depending on the prevailing wave loads and degradation mechanisms, GSCs may experience different types of failure modes (i) hydraulic failure modes, (ii) geotechnical failure modes, and (iii) failure modes related to the geotextile itself (Fig. 21.14). In the following, only the first type which is related to hydraulic stabihty imder wave loads will be addressed. [Pg.571]

The effect of the container deformations on the stability is explicitly accounted for by introducing analytically derived deformation factors into the formulae for the drag force, lift force, inertia force, and resisting forces for both hydraulic failure... [Pg.589]

Examples of inadequacies or failures of engineering controls include BOP malfunction, hydraulic failure, gauge or indicator equipment error or malfunction, power disruption, and valve failure. Engineering controls are subject to failure due to inadequate design, installation, inspection, testing, and maintenance. [Pg.269]

United Airlines Flight 859 Accident. This accident occurred on July 11, 1961, and is associated with the United Airlines Flight 859 (aircraft type Douglas DC-8-20), a scheduled flight from Omaha, Nebraska, to Stapleton International Airport, Denver, Colorado [10]. The flight crashed during landing at the Stapleton International Airport because the aircraft suffered a hydraulic failure while en route and caused 18 fatalities and 84 injuries. [Pg.75]

The priority for attention for the first event can be represented numerically by 0.274. Similarly, all other events are analysed and the corresponding priorities for attention are obtained such that the higher the value of the defuzzified results, the higher the priority in the ranking series. From the analysis and the results presented in Table 7.12, the failure event with the highest priority is failure component - hydraulic, failure mode - system loss, with a defuzzified result of 5.353. The lowest in the series is identified to be failure component - shaft propeller, failure mode - propeller blade failure, with a defuzzified result of 0.055. [Pg.161]

Hydraulic Failure Overfilling of a tank with subsequent liquid expansion through heating may lead to collapse of any vapor space and rapid pressurization. Sudden tank failure may ensue. [Pg.20]
