Of particular interest is the work done by Com, Smith and co-workers [96,97], who have identified the limitations of the SPR strategy and have initiated investigations of methods to enhance signals from hybridization. One of the ultimate goals of this research team is to enhance the sensitivity of this technique so that SPR interrogation of oligonucleotide arrays can realize comparable sensitivities to those... [Pg.278]

The photoemission spectra of the GFP in buffer solution and of the hybrid material GFP/SBA-15, are reported in Figure 4. All samples were excited at 475 nm and show a well resolved photoemission band at 502 nm with a shoulder at 536 nm. The shape of the emission profile for GFP/SBA-15 follows closely that of the GFP in buffer solution, but the intensity of the signal is higher in the case of the hybrid. This result evidences that the photoemission efficiency is enhanced by the protein confinement inside the mesoporous channels. [Pg.15]

The polymers used for fluorescence detection discussed thus far have all used either a synthetically linked polymer as the signal transducer for enhanced detection or some type of hybridization of the polymer with a receptor for ligand-receptor binding signaling. One of the most notable aspects of CPs is their ability to act as direct reporters for the detection of small molecules, or for conformational changes and protein aggregates. [Pg.404]

Similar techniques can be used to devise avidin—biotin assay systems for detection of nucleic acid hybridization. DNA probes labeled with biotin can be detected after they bind their complementary DNA target through the use of avidin-labeled complexes (Bugawanefrz/., 1990 Lloyd etal., 1990). Direct detection of hybridized probes can be accomplished, in a manner similar to that for LAB, by incubating with an avidin-enzyme conjugate followed by substrate development. BRAB-like and ABC-like assays also can be utilized to further enhance a DNA probe signal (Chapter 17, Section 2.3). [Pg.593]
